Emery defends under-fire Matuidi

Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery has defended Blaise Matuidi in the wake of recent criticism following his underwhelming get started to 2017.

Emery has typically preferred a 4-3-3 formation at PSG, however the presence of Hatem Ben Arfa tends to make it easy to switch to a 4-2-3-1, using the former Good star able to feature in all 4 attacking positions.
"It will not be a lot about the formation, but extra about the way the group plays. The traits of some players can change the way we play somewhat," Emery added.
"Ben Arfa can play as a quantity ten, as can [Javier] Pastore. Ben Arfa has also played as a number nine, in Edinson Cavani's position.
"I feel he has a good mentality and he normally assists the team when we need him. It can be a very good for him and excellent for the team. We have to have players like him, players who are prepared whenever we require them."
